Although it's easier than Fishing, Fletching and RuneScape gold Cooking are much more relaxing. These two skills are not as hard to master. Fishing, on the other hand is much more simple than Woodcutting and it's less tedious. I had 99 WC in 2007 or 2006 - doing a mix of Yews, Willows and Maples generally - and, from what I can recall, it wasn't too terrible.
A nearby bank, deposit box or shot can speed up the process. The Rimmington Willows site was great, there weren't many bots or other people, and you could sell logs. Draynor is also awesome and is superior to Rimmington however, all places are likely to be filled with people and/or robots.
Maples should be cut in the Seers Village area, close to the bank and with lots of trees. It is ideal to cut the trees around 95 Woodcutting and even so Willows are still the best choice, but a change will be beneficial and will aid in reducing boredom.
I don't suggest the Yews. I cut them down because woodcutting was my way of making money and the Willows/Maples weren't valuable. If you want to give these a go, I have always loved the Tree Gnome Stronghold spots, especially because they were close to several Magic trees. They are also available in the South and North of Varrock Castles that are situated just north of Varrock.
Jagex has either underestimated their player base or wanted Tuska to win. The former is more likely. We've seen it previously with the Falador memorial altar, and possibly with the old-fashioned referendum. Jagex overestimated the number of players in their original plans that Jagex later changed to a retconned version. It's worth considering the possibility of buy RS gold another alternative.
