  • What to look for in a portable medical oxygen concentrator

These devices are designed to be used wherever you want to go, so size and weight are the same major considerations as your choice of transportation. Generally speaking, the greater the power and the greater the output of the medical oxygen concentrator, the heavier and larger the medical oxygen concentrator. However, this does not necessarily hinder a busy lifestyle. Many also have convenient rolling carts or belt systems for easy transportation.

      Delivery/flow type

There are two main types of devices, pulsed flow, and continuous flow, based on the delivery of oxygenated air. The pulse airflow machine delivers air to the patient in the form of short jets timed for each inhalation. As a result, no oxygen is wasted.

In contrast, a continuous flow unit produces a continuous flow of oxygen. Regardless of whether the patient inhales or not, a continuous oxygen flow of 1 to 5 liters per minute is a common method for continuous oxygen delivery. These devices often have larger compressors and may waste some oxygen.
