Great FAQ, answers a whole lot of my first doubts.

  • Gosh, this looks so complicated. On PSO2 Meseta the 1 hand, kudos for keeping the game intact so that there will not be a riot over fluctuations people don't like. But on the other hand, since they are remaking base PSO2 visuals anyway, I wish they'd just go 100% and synchronize personality models completely. Giving old players some free fashion items and unlocks will be enough to bribe everyone to accept the new system.

Synchronizing 100% character models does not seem easy. The problem is that the older outfits and coating wear are modeled to match the older pso2 body. That is not likely to happen. I mean that I'd be ready to shed a certain percentage of these makeup to keep things intact across variations. Provided that there's a steady feed of cool new things to replace it, I do not mind. I always rotate out my old looks anyway. As long as the character models translate 1:1 it will still feel just like mine.

The example I can think of is the Monster Hunter Frontier Z cooperation where I could imagine the clothing and weapons could definitely be given a visual upgrade together with everything else but that I do not exactly know how the licensing or how the legal side of this collaboration functions where I would wish it was as easy as Sega going through and updating the assets but I don't understand about just how much Capcom is involved in that process.

The same is applicable to collaborations like the Final Fantasy XIV cooperation with Odin (which still exists as far as I know) where I do not understand just how much of Square Enix is involved in that for Sega to be able to update assets there. When it was only just Phantasy Star-related items (like character outfits, cameos from other games, or alternative Sega-related possessions ) I could imagine this likely would have been done, or would be carried out. But from the Global variant we already don't have the existence of Cougar NX so I do not know if there are additional complications seeing Sega's own properties that might also contribute to not updating everything they could within reason.

I can imagine that probably out there we will still see someone wearing those old collaboration items even if they aren't rigged up to the same standards as fresh cosmetics in a similar manner and buy meseta pso2 that there would have been outrage when it was made unusable or obsolete. Collabs that have had their makeup removed still have their assets exist on the sport so those will probably still be available for jp players.
