SURGE PROTECTION IN LED LIGHTING IS CRITICALLY IMPORTANT

Electrical surge, in simple words, is a sudden spike in electricity in your electrical circuits. Even though surges in general can last for as little as a fraction of a second, it can take massive toll on all electrical appliances and devices that may be connected to the circuit. LED lights, even the tough ones like high power LED stadium lights and LED flood lights are affected by electrical surges. Surges will cause wires and components to overheat, melt and lead to short circuits, all of which are destructive LED components. An LED light can last well over 50,000 hrs, with some going over 100,000 hrs and an electrical surge can end that life in less than a second. The time to protect your LED lights is at install to make sure you can take advantage of the long lifespan they provide.Get more news about Anti-surge Flood Light, you can vist our website!

What you need to know about dirty power
Dirty power, which is also known as electrical pollution, constitutes of a series of abnormalities in the electrical signal that compromises its quality. Dirty power has always been a silent electronics killer because most consumers are unaware of it. Caused by electromagnetic interference, even DLC listed lights, be it flood lights, LED high bay lights or even LED wall pack lights, can be affected by dirty power leading to irregularities like flashing/strobing lights and premature failure. Voltage regulators and filters are designed to control the fluctuations created by dirty power. Testing for dirty power and putting the proper protection in place will help ensure the life of your LED lighting.
    1. Enlist a professional - Professional electricians are trained to be able to test for dirty power and take the appropriate steps to protect your electrical systems from surges. Talk to you electrician and make sure you are protected.

    2. Use surge protectors – Install surge protectors in all your lighting circuits. For your LED lights, there are two great options for surge protection: inline surge protectors and photocell receptacle surge protectors. Inline surge protectors are available for a range of LED options including flood lights, corn bulb lights, LED canopy lights and more. They are simply installed in your circuit prior to the LED light and therefore are quite universal in their uses. Photocell receptacle surge protectors designed to be used in LED shoe box lights and take advantage of the easy twist-lock photocell receptacle. The surge protector simply twists into place in the photocell receptacle and photocell is locked into place on top of the surge protector. This also allows for easy replacement when its time to replace the surge protector. Both options are inexpensive and perfect for protecting your LED lights.

    3. Don’t overload on your circuits - This is a common mistake. Always ensure that you plug in your devices and appliances to the right power outlets that match the volume of electrical power it requires. Making sure you don’t install too many electronics on the same circuit. Circuit breakers may cut the power to a circuit if it gets overloaded, but the spike that trips the breaker may have already caused irreversible damage to your LED lights.

    4. Choose the right surge protectors - Not all surge protectors are designed to cater to all types of lights or appliances. For example, the surge protector you use for your LED flood lights may not work for your air conditioner or refrigerator, and visa versa. Some surge protection also includes filters or regulators to help deal with dirty power.

    5. Replace your surge protectors regularly – Surge protectors do not last indefinitely. It’s a good idea to replace your surge protectors every 2 years. One strong surge could be the end of your protection so be ready to replace them, especially after a known large surge. Lots of small surges will wear down surge protectors and they may not protect your LED parking lot lights when you need it.

    6. Choose LED lights with built in surge protection – Manufacturers like Meanwell design some of their LED drivers with built in surge protection. Some corn bulbs also have built in surge protection. Buy your LED lights from a source that keeps surge protection in mind, whether it’s LED lights with built in surge protection or easy to install surge protection options to be used with their LED lights.
